Identity in Christ

1.As Christ followers, we are to discover our true identity in God’s eternal family rather than in our earthly associations and relationships (Ephesians 2:6; 1 Peter 1:1-2; Ephesians 1:3-14; 1 Peter 1:2b)

In what ways can we be good citizens on this earth and still maintain our focus on our

eternal citizenship?

2.We must never compromise the message that all human beings need to be saved by believing in the Lord Jesus Christ (1 Peter 1:3-5; John 14:5-6; Acts 4:12; Acts 10:34-36;

1 Peter 1:10-12; Isaiah 4:2; 53:2-3).

Why do so many Christian leaders today fail to proclaim that faith in Jesus Christ is the

only way to inherit eternal life?

Living Transformed Lives

3.In view of God’s mercy and grace in saving us, we are to obey God’s Word and become more and more like Jesus Christ (1 Peter 1:13; 1 Peter 5:8; 1 Peter 1:14-16, 17; 2 Corinthians 5:10; 1 Peter 1:22-23).

rather than by God’s revelation in the Word of God?

4.To grow together by obeying God, we must deliberately and consistently learn the Scriptures (1 Peter 2:1-3, 4-5; Acts 2:42; Ephesians 4:15-16).

relationships or focus on dynamic relationships and neglect Bible teaching?

A Holy People

5.To be God’s witness in this world, local churches must function as dynamic, transformed communities that reflect God’s holiness (1 Peter 2:9a, 9b, 9c, 11-12; Acts 2:42, 46-47).

Though Peter used Israel to illustrate God’s relationship with the church, in what ways is

Israel as a nation different from the church as a family of believers?

Human Institutions

6.As Christ followers, we are to be obedient within all human institutions and structures without violating biblical values (1 Peter 2:13-17; Romans 13:1, 4, 7; 1 Timothy 2:1-4; Acts 5:29).

In what ways can we be good citizens in our own culture without violating the will of

God? What are some situations where we must obey God rather than people?
